The Story of Chiangpoo
Chiangpoo
Founded in 1949 by Mr. Yong Poo and Mr. Chiang Jua, Chiangpoo began with Chinese immigrants who took the risk of traveling by junk boat in search of opportunity. They started as small fruit hawkers in Yaowarat before growing into a fruit shop named Chiangpoo, a name formed from both founders and carrying the auspicious Chinese meaning of endless prosperity.
The second generation later expanded the business by bringing roasted chestnuts to Yaowarat, giving the local Chinese community a familiar taste from home. Using traditional methods developed over time, Chiangpoo became a pioneer in chestnut roasting machines and in replacing newspaper wrapping with paper bags and paper boxes.
